Whether you need professional teeth whitening results in the comfort of our own home or instant results in the dental office, we offer the most effective solutions for brightening your smile, ensuring that you still receive a high level of care, including a preliminary oral health check, customised treatment plans, and safer application.
What Causes Teeth Staining?
Teeth whitening works by removing stains from the enamel, the tooth's outer layer, and dentin, the darker layer underneath. Over time, factors like aging, coffee, tea, and tobacco can discolour the enamel. As enamel thins with age, more dark dentin shows through, making teeth appear darker.
Another contributing factor may be the use of medications throughout childhood, which can cause fluorosis. When you absorb fluoride (which is found in many antibiotics) at a young age, it can cause permanent damage to your tooth surface.

Whitening gels like Opalescence® use carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide to achieve their effects. These peroxides break down into water and oxygen molecules that react with and break apart the bonds in stain molecules on the teeth. This process lightens the appearance of the teeth, making them look whiter and brighter.
-
Teeth whitening is a safe, comfortable way to get a bright, white smile.
Results and treatment time may vary depending on the level of staining and whiteness desired.
Crowns, bridges, fillings, and veneers will not whiten.
Those with gum disease, worn enamel, cavities, and exposed roots may not be good candidates for teeth whitening, so it’s crucial to consult our dentist before using any whitening products.

Most adults can benefit from teeth whitening treatments. However, it's not suitable for everyone, such as children, pregnant women, and those with certain dental conditions. We recommend a consultation with our dentist to determine if teeth whitening is safe and suitable for you.

Some people may experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after the whitening process. This sensitivity is usually mild and subsides shortly after the treatment ends. We can adjust the concentration of the whitening agent and provide you with tips on how to minimise sensitivity based on your individual needs.
-
We recommend avoiding staining foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries, especially in the first few days after treatment.
Regular brushing, flossing, and periodic touch-ups using a home whitening kit can help maintain your results. Regular dental check-ups are also essential to keep your smile looking its best.
-
The cost of teeth whitening can vary greatly depending on what you use and where you get it. While over-the-counter teeth whiteners are the least expensive, they may not be the most effective because they are not tailored to your specific needs and may increase the risk of having sensitive teeth.
-
Many patients try over-the-counter teeth whitening products from pharmacies or supermarkets, like whitening strips or paint-on gels, only to find the results less satisfactory. While these products can provide some whitening, they are generally less effective than professional teeth whitening.
